Not sure if they're very different, but I've got an 86 SE tank sitting in my garage. Comes with a sender that may or may not work.

I have one here in Holiday, FL 34691 that has been cleaned and painted and ready to use. The big problem is shipping them and what you need to do just to get the EPA permit to ship them because they are not brand new fuel tanks. Also for your information an 88 Fuel tank will fit into an earlier Fiero if you have a set of 88 tank straps and the 88 cross bracket plate.

Good evening Larry.

How much would you be asking for it? Shipping would be to Harlingen TX 78550.

Thanks.

Rodney was selling new gas tanks but now that he is in the process of exiting the parts business will the tanks be available?

Dennis, I asked him that very same question and I never received a direct answer, therefore that is still the big unanswered question for a part that eventually we all will need some day.

While I am aware that there are still some good Fiero tanks around that will fit all years and models of our favorite car, there are still the legal aspect of shipping them anywhere. It seems that the EPA has some very stringent and steep regulations where shipping these are concerned, as well as securing a legitimate permit to do so. Now should you get caught shipping a used fuel tank the fine is a killer, plus you can be subject to immediate arrest, and the tank is immediately confiscated as it is considered shipping Hazardous Materials.

I personally thoroughly clean all of my old used fuel tanks with the tried-and-true 'White Vinegar Method' which works very well. I then flush the remaining solution out of the tank and let it sit in my shop until it air dries and no longer has any of that old or new fuel smells emitting from the tank anymore. After which I do not seal up any of the openings and store the tank that way until someone actually needs one.

I do know for a fact that people who do all of these very same procedures, then they seal off all of the tank openings, place and pack the tank into a large box and ship it off to someone, somewhere by calling it something else other than what it really is, a fuel tank (Potable Water Tank, Piece of Furniture, Air Tank, etc.) and they get lucky enough to not get caught doing so. All I can say is to be extremely careful but remember you can still get caught. I know because of a freak accident at the shipper's shop where another heavy package, fell off a higher shelf and tore open part of one of my boxes exposing the fuel tank and I got caught. Please do not learn this lesson the hard way.

There are 2 different size fuel tanks for the Fiero's. The smaller of the two came in the 84's through the mid 87's, when they switched to one slightly larger and added a breather or burp (my name for them) tank to the fuel system. When this was done, they lengthened the two tank straps and modified the cross-member plate to accommodate the new tank which was deeper than the earlier versions.
You can fit the later tanks into the earlier Fiero's by using the 88 tank straps and cross-member bracket or plate in the place of the earlier parts. Another way although a bit cruder, you can just put some extra washers under the bolts between the frame and the cross-member bracket or plate. Now, if you are lucky enough you may still be able to pick up a set of Rodney's new tank strap and cross-member bracket or plate.
This is an easy fix for any year Fiero.

Thanks for this information. I'll have to keep my eyes out for one during my travels.

I was able to figure out a solution with my existing tank using Ospho, paint thinner, and finally POR15 for gas tanks.
