I was thinking of blacking out the panel anyway. I was also thinking of painting the inserts and grilles the color of the body. But the more I think about it (my head hurts now) the more I'm thinking of keeping them black. Is there a way to give the tail light panel a carbon fiber look? ------------------

Cover it in Carbon-fiber velum like used for the gauge pod coverings. BTW what are you doing up at this time of night young man???
