I just posted in the thread that I was going to rename it before I asked Cliff to change the title, to let the viewers and posters get used to the new name. |

No, I haven't yet, but that's a good idea; thanks.
New thread title (if he agrees) will be "The Coupe-ula build thread"

In the thread,I like the new "Construction Zone", you said:

Say hello to #12! )" because that was a thread I started when I got the car, and later I didn't want to start yet another thread to document stuff on it. I wish I could change it now to something more like "The Coupe-ula Build" or something indicating it's a build thread... -Paul |

then Cliff said:

I started to tell you Cliff probably would, because he did it for me, but I didn't want to put words in his mouth - then he showed up and said it himself

Is your flamed coupe already a 5 speed car? |

Yeah, it is. Since I've pretty much accepted the fact that it won't be ready for D9, I've kinda slowed down a bit. I'm trying to do some research on mild upgrades to the V6, since it's already apart now. I don't want to do a major swap on this one, but could some of you list some 'freshen-up' mods I can/should do since I'm going to be taking it all the way down? I really like what Fieromaniac is doing in his Mild Performance, Maniac Way thread, but I'm not even wanting that much of a build up with new pistons and such. I know I'd like to have a go at porting the heads, and I'm gonna have to make/buy some headers, since these are cracked, and look pretty restrictive anyway. Any constructive pointers you guys have on what I should put into it upon reassembly (such as bearings, etc...) is greatly appreciated!

How many miles ago was this thing supposedly rebuilt? That has to be the dirtiest "rebuilt engine" I've seen. I think the guy that told you that wasn't being totally honest with you...

Some people think cleaning the outside of the motor, new gaskets, hoses, belts, etc., is a rebuild. It look nice on the outside and probably still runs well enough, so...
I don't know what your budget is Fieroboom but I would put the best into the bottom end. Have all the short block components cleaned, checked, reconditioned, and/or replaced, as necessary. If you can afford it pay to have someone assemble the bottom end for you. Get a good oil pump, and timing chain. If the bottom end is done right you never have to worry about it when on the road, you can go anywhere you want with relative peace of mind, and you don't have to pull the motor again. I'm not saying the top-end is not important - just that it's a little easier to deal with.[This message has been edited by toddshotrods (edited 02-25-2009).]

Yeah, I would tend to agree... Aesthetically, it looked recently rebuilt, but inside is a different story...

I'd rather do the assembly myself, mainly because I really don't like other people (especially ones I don't know) working on my car... At most I would have the block cleaned & honed, then I'd take it from there. I've never fully rebuilt an engine, so this is a good time for me to start learning some stuff. -Paul

Can one of you guys give me your thoughts on purchasing a rebuild kit? The one I had in mind is something like this:
http://www.rpmmachine.com/e...ld-kits-budget.shtml
3rd entry under Chevy kits. "MK-ECH-173L 2.8L 1985-1986 Fiero gaskets more $295.78"
"These kits include Pistons, Rings, Gaskets, Cam Bearings, Rod Bearings, Main Bearings, Oil Pump, Freeze Plugs, Camshaft, Lifters, Prelube,Timing Set And Wrist pin Bushings where applicable."
