88 Coupe gets a 3.4 (Page 50/57)

Are you going to put the gasket on with some kind of sealant? RTV, The right Stuff or put on dry? Interested in your tranny install. I've got a 4T60 sitting in my garage (too cold to do much). Far as I can tell I have everything. still need to have the bracket modified that goes between the tranny and motor. I'm pulling the cover's off too to make sure it's clean inside. PO left an opening where the transmission dip stick goes in and the kick down cable on top. I'm sure some debris made it's way in there while it was sitting.

I will use the gaskets that I purchased. There are 2 needed for the side pan, and one for the bottom pan. I always install a new torque converter seal, and both CV shaft seals. Cheap and easy to do while it is out of the car.

Any trash that got in threw the dipstick tube hole will be in the bottom pan, not the side pan.

Removed the CV shaft seals, installed the new ones. I got a new pressure switch for third gear engagement. I am just about ready to take the 88 apart once again. I need to connect the internal wiring and replace the side pan.

Sorry I haven't called you been super busy with work.

I put a relay in for the TCC.
But I was having problems with my third gear not shifting in my first trans. Found the rebuild shop left out an O'Ring down in the drums.
They built me a replacement trans, and it shifted into third good but would slip out if I gave it too much gas. another O'ring problem.
During all the trouble shooting I was making sure the relay wasn't the culprit, so, I disconnected it.
I finally got it to shift right after a friend of mine found the O'Ring problems.
I never did reconnect the relay and had no issues. I put about 5 to 8 thousand miles on it before I sold the car to Niterrorz. He hasn't said anything about it.

Karl Hamilton put the relay in as a safety because he said his car stalled at a stop because the TCC was kicking in. The brake pedal voltage interrupt switch should be sufficient.

I would try it first with out it. Then if you have troubles put it in. It is confusing to get the Logic correct.

A shot of the new switch installed on the 3rd gear pressure port. The shinny one in just about the center of the picture:

Side cover replaced after soldering the wires to match the TH125C wiring:

I got this from fieroguru. Thought it might come in handy for someone else:

We have had our house for sale since last November. We had to sign approval contracts for accepting the offer made to us this morning. Won't be switching out this transmission until we move out and find us a new place to live , and of course fix Fiero's. 4 Car garage w/ concrete floors first priority for a new place to live.!!!!

I dropped the bottom pan of the transmission yesterday. Was very clean inside there. Installed a new Wix filter and gasket. I removed 2 inches off of the dipstick tube. The 'T' handle of the dip stick was broken off right at the handle. Re assembled with a new dipstick tube seal.

Went out in the garage this morning and got a few things done on the 4T60. Added the adjustable vacuum modulator, the dipstick tube and a few fasteners that I hadn't used that needed to be added.

The folks that were trying to purchaase our house had to back out. Couldn't get financeing.

Thought about starting the install. Decided to wait until after Round Up in San Antonio in April.

Sorry the sale fell through. I like your style on what you are looking for in your New house though!! Just thought I would chime in and let you know I was still following your thread. What did your 4T60 come out of? I found a 4T60E for a cheap price but think those are harder to convert over.

Ben, mine came out of a 1990 Grand Prix w/3100 V6. Don't buy a 4T60E It requires an ECM to shift the gears. The 'E' means electrical shifted, hence the ECM.

The 4T60 was used as late as 92 or 93 maybe. 90-93's were the top of the food chain for 4T60's upgrades etc.

Go to this page and look.
