Removed the old hubs and installed new seals this afternoon.

New seal installed.

New Hub installed:

I slipped in a outer axle stub to make sure that I ahd the seal set deep enought. The new seals were not as "thick" as the originals so if i set them flush, the seal may ride to far down on the axle. After a few test fits, I think I got the seal set to the right depth. The inside face is flush with the "mark" left by the original seal. I suppose it won't matter much because I will be using brand new outer axle shafts.

Went over to Frizlefrak's house this evening and stole the shift cable bracket and the shift arm so I can clone them! Hope he does not decide to take his car for a spin!

More later.

Worked on the shift arm this evening. I borrowed the arm and the cable bracket form Frizlefrak's car and cloned them. When I installed the arm, it hits the crossover pipe in park. Now I got to figure that out.

Flattened out:

Marked and drilled for the pin:

Pin welded in new place:

All trimmed up:

Frizlefrak's arm had a few cracks in it from where it was flattened out originally so I ground out the cracks and welded it up:

More later!

The damnedest thing just happened....

I went out to drive my 4.9 car....it started just fine, but when I went to put it in gear, nothing happened! Anyone have any ideas?

Good work Pat....you move fast.

Well after a late night and lots of new cuss words, I think I got it. I finished cloning the cable bracket then removed the crossover pipe. After I got the bracket mounted and the cable hooked up, it looks like the shifter is working good. I reinsatlled the crossover and was able to "rotate" it upwards. I tightened it down and was able to get plenty of clearance between the crossover and the shift arm. I will wrap the cross over with header wrap to help with the heat. Just waiting on some axles to show up and she will be on the gorund ready for a test drive.

Had a setback on the XTC today. Awhile back, I picked up some outer maual Fiero axle/CV's for the axle mod. After cleaning them up and looking them over, there was one that seemd a little "rough" to me so I decided to buy a set of remanned Fiero manual axles form AZ, then use the outer axle/CV and instll these on the Olds mini van axles. Today, one came in so I picked it up - got home and started to disassemble the new axle. Turns out the new outer axle/CV is the same diameter axle shaft as the Fiero auto - too small for the Olds mini van axle! Craptacular news! So now I'm back to square one with the axles. Monday I will see if there is a local shop that can rebuild the 2 used outers I have. Hope this wokrs out.

More later.

Dismantled a CV joint this evening - found out why it was rough. I was able to use a fine wire wheel on my dremel to clena up the parts. I put them in my brass tumbler with walnuts and jewler's rouge to see if they will polish up. If so, I will reassemble it and run it.

Axles and suspension in this evening. I need to move the motor 1/2" toward the passenger side - not a problem as I planned ahead for this possibility - I just need to slot a couple mount holes.

Drivers side in:

It's good to have a floor monkey!

First drive by this weekend Pat? It should be ready for our weekly "Men of a Certain Age" luncheon event.
