A history of Skitimes car (Page 26/72)

I also added the ZZP throttle body spacer. It prevents the supercharger from heating up the throttle body.

I also add the ZZP underdrive water pump pulley to free up some horsepower. It is lighter and prevents turning the pump faster than is needed.

Here are some pics of the completed intercooler.

Now previously I shamefully was using the stock restrictive 2.8 air intake system and air cleaner. I decided to build a cold air intake box and intake system with a K&N filter. I have a one-piece 4-inch rubber hose running from the throttle body to the K&N filter. I am designing a cold air box behind the Mecham side scoop for some ram air effect. Most of the Fieros I have seen just stick a filter behind the quarter panel and let it suck hot air from the surrounds. Not good! I want a completely sealed compartment for the filter that will only take in cool air.

With the redesigning of the air intake system I was able to relocate two ugly items in my engine compartment. I relocated the emissions canister and the cruise control vacuum tank away from my rear engine compartment to being hidden where the old air cleaner was. It is much nicer looking without those ugly things being visible.

Well after driving my GT finally after completing the cold air intake and intercooler. It felt so much stronger. I drove it hard and it felt like it definitely has more power. The power was right there all the time. It reminded me of a tightly wound rubber band. After the spirited drive the intercooler was only warm and it would of been too hot to touch before. I was pleased with that. The new intake system really lets the whine of the supercharger come through. Sweet! I had the expected drop in boost but now it time to put the smaller pulleys on. hehe

Here is my cold air intake box. I made two panels out of steel to close the area. All seams were taped with metal duct tape as well as any factory openings. The original fender liner was cut in the middle so you only need to remove the front half to service. The liner is sealed with gaskets as well.

Here is the new large K&N air filter in place.

My new air intake tube is awesome. It is heavy rubber with a steel coil inside to prevent collapse.

The custom rubber hose is so much better than PVC or metal. It reduces the heat transferred to the inside and does not transmit vibrations.

And here is the competed view through the engine-viewing window. The supercharger sure looks sweeter being 2 1/4 inches closer to the glass.

The last thing I have done was change the stock fuel pump to the 1989 Turbo Trans Am fuel pump. It will allow the pump to keep up with the higher demand of this engine.

So this is up to date I believe. Yes I still got lots of plans for the car. I need to get it dialed in with a new ECM chip burned for this engine setup. I have a few other ideas I might develop. I am planning to go to the 20th Anniversary Show and hope to meet lots of new people. Please stop by and check it out. Let me know what you think.

Hey well why didn't you just say so! I've seen pictures of your daughter from her prom, and I'm willing if you willing to have me.

Oh and about the car, I don't think I need to repeat myself yet again

Oops, I think you messed something up! Oh wait, my mistake, the car is perfect.

Beautiful work, as always. One question, would you mind sharing what the intake tube was originally intended for, specifically? It is a great piece and I'm sure other 3800 SC owners would like to know how they can get it in the future. I don't have a 3800SC, but if I did I'd be all over that intake setup, it's near ideal!
