I know Greg...Just had to throw out that disclaimer....lol I'd hate to be run down by a Fiero in the downtown streets of Omaha next week... Yes it is cold and snowy there this time of year. I believe they have more snow oin the ground now than in recent past years. I like it there - ust not in February! It's too bad that the "new year" does not happen in September! I love it there inthe Fall.

So after reading countless 4.9 swap threads, I decided to "hedge" my bets and I picked up 8 extra injectors at the mega pull this morning. Following a couple other 4.9 threads, I decided that I should make sure that my injectors are clean and in good working condition before I plug the motor in the car and try to fire it up. So along with the ones in the mortor, I wanted to have a few extra's in case one or more of the original ones in my motor are bad, stuck, leaking, etc.

I got these off of a 91 Deville with a 4.9. I took the injector rack and the injectors together. What I noticed is that there was one injector that is different from the rest - replacement maybe? I have been trying to learn about injectors and I am learning a lot but I do not think it's a good thing to mix injector types. From what I read, the 4.9 uses a "disc" style injector. This one odd ball is a "pintle" type.

So anyway, I hooked each one up to an injector plug and then to 12 volts to make sure I could hear / feel them click. I also put a 5/16 fuel line on the inlet side and blew air through them with power applied. I was able to blow through 5 of the 8. One , when I touched the positive lead to the 12 volt feed clicked then smoked! Dead - goner! Another one did not click at all.

Here's all my injector checking stuff:

The high tech filter removing tool:

Dry rotted O Rings and old filters:

I was rummaging through my box of Fiero fuel injector stuf and found that I had a complet set, still mounted in the Fiero injector manifold, that look very similar to the Caddy injectors - numbers are different though but I have several other sets of V6 injectors and thay are different than the Caddy ones? I'll have to do some digging to see what is up here.

Here's one of the V6 Injectors:

I'm going to post my questions about the difference between Pintle and Disc style injectors over in Tech. See if some of the experts can tell me what's up here.

More later.

I took a set of Ford injectors to these guys when the shop told me the mis-fire was a bad injector. They were completely wrong and it cost me less than $100 to get all the injectors cleaned and measured as opposed to the $250+ each it would have cost to replace them.

They've got a good write-up on the realities of EFI maintenance.

All the rest aren't Pontiacs, so what does it matter?

Easy now....Remember that there is a 16 year old doing this project. I took the pic of "his" work area. What you don't see is the cooler full of beer sitting next to the lawn chair I am sitting in........ I'll have to get a shot of that this weekend.....

Well here I sit in Pueblo and I get a phone call from the homestead. Seems the Code Compliance Nazi's paid my little Hacienda a visit today and gave me a warning about working on my car in the driveway. Seems that sitting on jack stands with the tires removed is a code violation. Hmmm... But it's ok for the neighbor to leave his broke down suburban with no motor in it parked facing the wrong direction on the street? Oh yeah - it's registered in Mexico too! Maybe if I put it up on cinderblocks and put 13" true spokes on it with fuzzy balls hanging around the windshiled it will pass inspection. Looks like the XTC will not get worked on till I can find a shop to buy or lease.
