Steering knuckle for Wilwood big brake kit (Page 1/1)
Boise88GtFiero DEC 19, 04:58 PM
I have an '88 Fiero GT that I inherited from my father. It has a 13" Wilwood big brake kit that at one point (I believe) came from V8 Archie. The steering knuckle bolt holes for the caliper are stripped on the front driver's side. The knuckle isn't stock. I don't know where it came from. Any ideas or suggestions for how to get a replacement knuckle? Or what car the big brake kit knuckle may have come from? Or even how to get a knuckle with the right top-to-bottom ball joint spacing that I could use to fabricate a new knuckle?

Thanks in advance.

Look on the knuckle for a part number...

Good suggestion to look for a part number. I saw none, and it has lots of welds, which suggests it's at least somewhat custom made (it's not cast or forged). This images is larger than 153600 bytes. Click to view.

One more post. I've read postings here, but this topic is the first time I've tried to post anything.

That knuckle appears to be similar to pieces fabricated by one of three different companies, Held Motorsports, Rayne Motorsports, or Arrault Motorsports.

Held was the original, sold to Rayne, who sold to Arrault.

Held and Rayne had good quality, Arrault not so much.

Your best bet may be to weld up the stripped holes and retap the threads, or possibly use high quality threaded inserts.

As joe said, welding up the hole and retapping the threads will repair it. If there is enough room, you might be able to fit a nut between the bracket and rotor as well.
