I’m stuck on this part. I’m using Rodney Dickmans headlight motor rebuild kit and I don’t understand how to put the shaft back into the gear properly. Any help would be awesome

Start with 'what' year...
You're rebuilding the Gen 1 motor or the Gen 2 motor?

Buddy Craig really provides a great explanation on a Gen 1 motor rebuild. But before you go through the trouble please check the motor brushes. At times these are worn down to the spring but you can install new brushes on the springs with Rodney's replacement brushes using the conductive epoxy that he has supplied.
When rebuilding Gen 1 motors it is very important to put everything back in the same position and exact place that they were removed from. Mistake and the motors will not function
