Need parts for 86 Fiero SE V6 (Page 1/3)
Carlin OCT 15, 04:58 PM
I need help finding parts but don't know what I need, since I got a job so I can now start buying parts.

First need both decklid vents. The ones for the SE that I find online are just metal mesh, while the GT ones are proper looking vents. Are the SE vents just a metal mesh or am I missing something. below are 2 photos from online of the vents.

I also need what I think is the ECU or ECM. It the big box computer for the engine that is inside of the center console between the 2 seats. I have no idea what exact model I need. The car has a V6 engine.

Don't specifically look up for se Fieros, there are 4 different styles of decklid vents, 84 solid plastic, 85 (notchback only and much much thicker and heavier duty than later ones) 86+ notchback (what your looking for) and 86+ fastback (your pictured "GT" one).

All notchback vents have the pictured metal mesh underneath, but the whole vent itself is different than the 86+fastback vents, the notchback ones are indeed just a "square", but look similar to the pictured "GT" vent.

This is what you need, I think it's the stronger 85 one to.

The only difference in the back decklid vents is the construction, they are all cross compatible, just not the fastback ones. The 85 ones are stronger though.

If I may make a few corrections to your post.....

The 84 solid covers are cast magnesium.

The notchback vents featured two styles of under-vent grating - the mesh that you have pictured as well as a "cheese grater" style.

The 88 notchback vents had 2 inboard hold down holes, so they would fit pre-88 and 88 models.

I have not noticed any difference in the 85 notchback castings as far as thickness or weight compare to 86-87.

I thought the center one was magnesium and the outer solid was plastic, good to know.

My 85 had the honeycomb, my dad's 86 has the cheese grater style, my 85 is solid and would be more than strong enough to stand on, my dad's 86 vents, the individual louvers can be flexed fairly easily by hand.

Your first photo is a Fastback Engine Grill/Vent
Your second photo is a Notchback Screen {without the grill/vent} which is the original type

TIP: Don't spray paint the grills/screens; powder coat instead

I also need what I think is the ECU or ECM.

The computer isn't a problem; however, the PROM {Programmable Read Only Memory} chip MUST be correct for the vehicle {see the chart in the link}

olejoedad, l think the 85 vents were also magnesium. Both my 85 GT grills were beefier than my 86 SE grill.
