84 4 speed manual trans. Does anyone know if this gate selector comes off ? I've never seen an 84 before but I've tried to take this off to swap to another trans and it seems frozen which is why I'm asking if it's possibly cast in place or something and does not come off ??? Please help !

It does, 41 years of being on there it may take a little heat around the collar to get it to separate.

Typically, anytime there is a flat surface on a threaded shaft, it is because the metal bracket or washer on it also has a flat surface in an otherwise round hole to prevent it from rotating.
That arm should come off, but as mentioned it likely has rusted in place and needs to be broken free with heat or using a pulley puller.

Yea heat, penetrating oil and some tapping did not break it free last night. I have a beer fridge in the garage so I threw it in the freezer overnight to see if the metals will shrink any and help me get a small amount of clearance to get it off. Puller is a good idea I was trying to rig up something myself with not much luck. Only other option I suppose if all else fails is to possibly disassemble and press it. Wish me luck lol

To help not damage the bracket, you might want to loosly install a 2-piece shaft collar under it before installing the puller. The shact collar will spread the load on the bracket and help minimize any bending before it lets go.

You can remove the shift lever arm and shaft together from the transmission as an assembly. This requires opening up the transmission.
You will have more options for removing the shift lever arm if you can work on it separately on a bench.

I was able to get it after freezing then heating it and tapping all around it with an air hammer. It finally came off kicking and screaming!
