Headlight motor rubber O-ring? (Page 1/1) |

Hello all, quick question…
I re-opened my headlight motor to make sure everything was in its place, and all the sudden in front of me I see a rubber 0-Ring. I can’t figure out if it fell off when I was opening the case, or if it just got pushed into the mix from one time when I replaced the O-rings on my fuel injectors.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Thank you

It goes around the shaft that protrudes out of the side of the motor. It's a seal behind the short lift arm that bolts to the motor shaft. You can see it in this picture. Some motors also have the metal washer as an additional seal. I've actually seen very few metal washers on the dozens and dozens of motors I've rebuilt.

Thanks for the reply, Fierofool…
I guess I’m having a hard time trying to figure out exactly where the rubber O ring goes..
I opened up the passenger side headlight motor, and I didn’t see an O-ring there either. I’m wondering if those rubber O-rings were just added to the generation to rebuild?

The O-ring is clearly visible in my photo. Remove the nut and short lift arm. The O-ring slips over the end of the shaft and seats into the motor case. Every Generation 1 motor I've ever worked on had the O-ring. It's possible that if someone has already worked on the motor, then it could have been eliminated, but it's necessary to prevent water intrusion.
