Fuel Gauge/Sender issues (Page 1/2) |

Hey all, so my fuel gauge is currently very screwed up, it sits here: And I measured the resistance between the pink/purple wire and the black on and got 1.365k Ohms (yes I read it correctly, and will happily remeasure and take a picture this time if anyone would like). So then I tried jumpering a couple wires (can't remember the post ATM, if I find it again I'll link it below) that is supposed to make the gauge fall to empty and instead it jumped to here: So now I'm really stumped, should I just bite the bullet and order a new sender and replace it or is there anything I can test/try first?
P.S. the fuel gauge was working fine till the last time I filled up the tank and that's when it decided to read way over and get stuck, maybe the issue is with the fuel gauge itself and not in the tank?

try using resistors directly on the gauge wires to simulate a empty tank and if that doesnt work then the gauge might be bad

What size resistor would you recommend 100/200/1k something else, or does it matter?------------------ 1987 Iron Duke SE

then it looks like a 90 ohm resistor +/-10 percent should be perfect for seeing if the gauge is correct. if it isnt theres ways to correct it

I'll double check this afternoon, but the other day it was 1.365k ohms. Which I know is WAY the heck off.

that would mean its completely empty plus some. so yeah its probably broken which on a gm product isnt unusual edit:brain dumb. thats hilariously out of spec. you sure you haven't hooked the fuel sending wires to a cup of salt water? joking[This message has been edited by cartercarbaficionado (edited 06-25-2025).]

Not that I am aware of lol, do you know where the best place to get one is? and if I'm dropping the tank for that anyway, what else should I do while I am in there? easy way to test if my fuel pump is good?
