1988 Rear Spindle Washer? (Page 1/1) |

Hi all,
I'm working on getting the rear end of my 1988 GT put back together. Looking in the service manual, the instructions for reassembling the rear knuckle include a step stating to torque the hub nut and washer -- I've got the hub nuts that came with my replacement CV axle, but I don't remember pulling a washer off either side when I removed the knuckle to begin with, and RockAuto and the local parts stores don't show a part match for a rear spindle washer.
Is there in fact supposed to be a washer between the hub nut and the hub in the rear? If so, does anyone have a part number / dimensions? Closest I was able to find was a Dorman 618-026 which matches the Cutlass Ciera that uses the same wheel hubs, but I'm not 100% sure on it
Thank you[This message has been edited by Noah3.0 (edited 05-25-2025).]

How to replace the rear bearing hubs, with pics. https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum9/HTML/000022.html
PS - This thread photo shows the 1984 rear hub

Perhaps '88 doesn't have the washer...? [This message has been edited by Vintage-Nut (edited 05-26-2025).]

Interesting -- I found a place to get that washer from so I suppose I'll buy a couple and see if it works then. Feels better to have something there even if it might not be strictly necessary.

88s also are supposed to have the washer. At least all of mine have.

Thank you Raydar for confirming; can you also confirm if the '88 uses the same washer as the '84-'87?

The same rear hub is used on all Fieros from '84-'88... so there'd be no reason for the 88's not to also have the spindle washer.

I'd bet there's probably a bunch of various GM models that use the same washer also. Maybe not the larger cars, but anything with a 5x100 bolt pattern probably uses the same washer.

Hi everyone,
Thank you for the help. I got a set of the Dorman washers I mentioned above -- as expected, even though they say applicable to 1984-1987, they seem to work just fine on the 1988 as well.
