Is my transmission dying? (Page 1/1)

It has a little bit of a grind in forth and third if I shift too fast and it seems to jerk back and forth in third is that a sign of a dying transmission if so how long do you think I have and is there a rebuild kit available anywhere?

5 spd? classic symptoms of worn Synco's. When you are in those gears and accelerate hard does it jump out of gear?

It's a 4 speed but it doesn't jump out of gear

Disregard my previous post, check your shift and select Cable adjustments and proper hydraulic slave movement. The 4 spd's are pretty resilient, when they break, you will know it.

I second this.

I had an 85 GT 4-Speed and I started having similar problems as you... and then a week later the clip holding one of the shift cables to the bracket in the engine bay broke. I used a zip tie to get home, and then got one from the junkyard the next day... and all my problems were gone. The 4-Speed is like one of the most bullet-proof transmissions I've ever seen... but no one wants them because they only have 4 gears and scream on the highway.

How do I go about checking the shift and select cables what should I be looking for?
