Removing the Door Lock lever (Page 1/1)

I must have removed inner door panels at least a dozen times and doing another now. Its not real hard and I always succeed, but there is one part that always gives me trouble and that is removing the lock lever. The plastic lever just snaps on the lock rod but it doesn't always easily snap off. if all else fails, I can pry it off with a pair of pliers but that can break the lever. We have replacements but does anyone know an easy way to get a stubborn plastic lock lever off?

wd40 on the back and i hold the rod with pliers and jiggle the everloving crap out of the manual lock lever until it comes off and usually results in me punching myself with it. you can also put pliers behind it and then push the rod towards the door and that works pretty good too.

Finally got the door lock levers off today. Had to use the cotter pin removal tool to get in there. Pushed in on the lock rod with the cotter pin hook while it was inside the plastic lever and pried it off. Apparently I was not the first to take off the door panel. The door panel fasteners, the rubber weatherstrip at the ends and the lock release levers were all glued; the work of a half ass mechanic. Now with the inner part of the door disassembled I will tackle the dew wipes tomorrow and hope that the screws fastening the dew wipes are not rusted in. When we replaced dew wipes we removed the screws that are accessible with the window down and then raised the window up past the stops to get at the other screws. its pretty easy that way but I have seen guys do this job leaving the window down and using the small right angle Phillips head tool to reach the difficult screws at the outside of the window.
