fiero suspension options (Page 1/1)

looking through the option codes list for the 84,88 and 87 and i was wondering what the rally suspension and ws6 mean. ive read on this forum in a few places its springs or shock or sway bar for the pre 88 and there wasnt really a definitive answer that i found satisfactory

Y99 is the Rally Suspension, and WS6 is the Performance Suspension.

I don't know the specifics, but when you got WS6 versus Y99, it wasn't just springs, but also shocks, steering, and maybe one or two other things that were different.

For example, if you got WS6, you also got the stiffest springs available (which had a separate RPO code for each corner), plus you got the stiffer shocks and struts (which was another RPO), and you also got the tighter steering rack.

Y99 basically had the next level down, and also the less precise steering rack.


My daughter's 1985 Fiero 2m4 SE has the WS6 suspension, so it's got all the good suspension stuff (really, the springs and steering rack are important). But my 87 Fiero SE / V6 came with the Y99 Rally Suspension, which I dislike. The springs are way too soft. I think all Fieros absolutely need WS6 springs.

I ordered a complete set of WS6-rated springs brand new from NAPA Auto Parts back in the day when they were still available for order... just waiting to put them on. But I also ended up getting a steering rack from a 1985 Fiero GT so I could get the more responsive steering when I eventually get the car back on the road.

hopefully i grabbed a ws6 spring for my gt when i grabbed a random strut out of a pile then. it sits the same as the other side and seems about the same or maybe a little stiffer. ill see if it has the part number on it still

Question, who are you? You should make a thread in general saying hello and posting a picture of your car. You're making a lot of random comments in different areas without even saying hello first. That throws up a huge red flag in my book based on past ex members who spam this forum. Jump over to general, say hello, and post some pics.
