Best Brake calipers to get off Rock Auto? (Page 1/2)
the_snowman MAR 15, 01:18 PM
As i am still very new to fieros, this forum has been such a big help!

So i am wondering if anyone has bought new rear and or front brake calipers from rock auto?

If so, then what are your recomendations?

This is for an 88 GT 2.8L

Also are there any differnces in the 87 GT breake calipers than the 88?

84-87 use the same calipers. The rotors are not vented

88 calipers were only used on the 88 Fiero, no other GM car used them.
The rotors are vented, therefore they are thicker that the pre-88's.

88 calipers are very hard to come by.

Are your 88 calipers not working?

ohhh, okay.

yes, my calipers on all four are not working.

with some work they can be fixed, but i have a time limit on how long i can work on my fiero.

it is currently at a friends garage, and he would like it out asap.

The 88s also have a different caliper bolt pattern, as well as offset side to side and radially.

All the rockauto 88 fiero calipers are out of stock.

Calipersonline has the front ones. If you don't want/need a parking brake, you can use the 88 front calipers in the rear.

I've run front calipers on all four corners on my 88 Formula for quite some time with no issues.

IF you have good '88 cores; see this thread:

So if i would like to keep the parking-brake, then i would need to rebuild them?
Vintage-Nut MAR 15, 03:17 PM
The rear piston actuator / parking mechanism is the 'key'...

Some remanufacturing business fails from the box and members reported lots of horror stories about getting crappy rebuilds.

Do you have ANY fluid coming out of the center hole of the rear piston?

No fluid from the piston at all.
