I'm tire shopping online for one of my Formulas with stock 88 rims. I was looking at Tire Rack, but wasn't sure about the choices. They list only two types of stock tires for sale, the Falken Sincera SN250 A/S and the Riken Raptor HR. No treadware rating listed, and mixed reviews. What brand and model of tires are you folks using, and if you ordered online, what website did you use? Thanks.

I don't know whether Tirerack sells the specific size, but the General AltiMax RT45 is a good tire- and light, which makes our cars drive better. The tire in the 88 GT sizes does not show up when looking for them by size- but did show up as "Available" when I looked via "Brand" on Tirerack-et......Possibly, give them a call and talk to an actual Hu-man.....
Also, check with other suppliers, such as Discount Tire and Big O.....

When I last purchased tires I shopped all of the websites and got the best deal from a local independent car repair and tire store.
On stock wheels, I like 215 on front and 225 on rear - all 60 series.

I'll probably just go to a local tire chain.
What is your thinking on 215/225 versus 205/215s?

Upsizing the width front and rear looks better, fills the wheel wells a little bit more and gives a bit more grip.
I've run those sizes on Fieros since the mid 90's.
I'm currently running 215/50/17 and 235/50/17 on my Formula due to guru's 13" brake kit.

I just talked to a guy at the TireRack, and he stated that the reason that General AltiMax RT45 tires do not show up on a Fiero Tire search is because the REAR size is not >>"H"<< rated...Now, I want to point out that while some of us Autocross and race Fieros, those people will usually have moved on to larger wheels and somewhat exotic tire sizes.
For those who are driving normal on regular roads, there really is no need for that "H" rating, so if you wish to buy these >>Very good<< tires in the correct size for your Fiero, try calling the TireRack, then dialing extension 4743 and talk to Cooper.
Tire sizes available in AltiMax RT45 tire; 205, 215, 225/60-15.

I'm looking into some tires that local shops and chains can get in a reasonable amount of time. I'm hoping to get tires mounted this week. What I have so far:
Hankook Kinergy PT H737 - around $120/tire
Goodyear Radial T/A (available black or raise white letters which might look good on an all black Formula) - around $200/tire
Anyone have experience with these?
Note: this car isn't intended for the track. It's a daily driver/beater type, but I don't want crap tires that will fall apart next year. I don't need track tires, but a upper medium quality would be good.[This message has been edited by fierobear (edited 03-10-2025).]

I don't know if the ratings have been modified since their inception, but I have found that the 15" tires with an 'H' rating had significantly stiffer sidewalls and enhanced handling and turn-in, as compared to the 'S' and 'T' rated tires.

Those Goodrich T/As are very heavy, very expensive, do not perform well.....back in the day they had a wear-rating around 300, so soft and sticky....Around 2000, they went to a wear-rating of 500- they will last for-ever...because they are hard as rocks and DO NOT stick at all.
Look into the General RT43 or 45....Good tire, lighter and much less expensive.
