I’ve recently purchased my 1986 fiero sport and there is this plug the engine compartment that is t connected to anything. The wires are grn/wht and grn/blk.what could that be for? The connector is really filled with dust, so I assume it hasn’t been connected to anything for a long time.

That looks like the plug for the coolant gage and the HOT lamp.

I thought that at first, but it looks like that plug is already in place. And my temp light has come on. So I don’t think that’s what it is.

Do your backup lights work?
Green/black and green/white on a two wire connector doesn't show up in the 86 FSM. There are only a couple of two wire plugs on the engine in that area of the engine.

It doesn't go to anything. I had the same question on my daughter's 1985 Fiero 2m4 SE.
I couldn't find anything, and I think it was SleekFiero who eventually told me that it's left over from the 1984 model year when the 84 Fiero's radiator fan was a 2-speed fan. They basically eliminated the second sensor and switched to a single-speed fan in 1985... but they kept the harness basically identical through the 1986 model year, with the only change being for the A/C compressor (you got a V5 compressor).
So yeah... totally don't even worry about it. It connects to nothing. That's ONLY for the "red" plug one. The black one (which I see you have connected) still goes to the fan, but the red one does nothing.

Yes, all my lights work. This plug is really clogged up, like it hasn’t been plugged in to anything for a long time. I got this fiero about 5 months and haven’t noticed anything that is necessary not working,

Thanks. That’s some good info. Since everything has been working, I figured it was something I didn’t need.

Yeah, it's wild to me that they left it in there... I mean... of the 80k cars they likely produced in the proceeding years (85-86), they couldn't have just removed it in the design / engineering?
