No power to Solanoid (Page 1/1)
rusty_one FEB 23, 03:38 PM
Hi all brand new here
Picked up an 86SE V6
It was not running , I was able to get it running by jumping the starter.
New battery and everything lights up but only a click when I turned the key
I hooked a remote start on the starter and it fired up but I have no power to the solenoid wire itself
I tried finding a wiring diagram on where it gets its power from but couldn’t see it
Is it fused at any point
When I started it, car was in neutral so never pressed the clutch in
Eliminates neutral safety switch?
Thanks for any help

There is a Clutch Safety Switch - you must depress the clutch pedal to start the car.

If the starter still won't engage, the switch may be out of adjustment.

It's the switch with a heavy gage yellow wire and a heavy gage purple wire on the clutch pedal assembly.

My suggestion is to get a 1986 Pontiac Fiero Service Manual, but you can use this one until you buy a printed copy...:
https://fieroinfo.com/manua...o_Service_Manual.pdf -
Page 904 or Section 8A - 30 - 0

If it is a manual gear box; check the clutch start switch circuit
{Ignition switch yellow wire to clutch start switch to starter solenoid}

*If the yellow ignition switch wire has 12V; check for 12V before and after the clutch start switch and then at the C500 connector

*If the yellow ignition switch wire doesn't have 12V; check the ignition switch path

If it is an automatic; check the C500 connector first which is before the transaxle position switch

Bingo
It was an adjustment on a plastic piece for the clutch safety switch
I do have a broken wire to another switch lower down
Not sure what that goes to but I’ll fix it
She now starts with the key
I’ll grab a manual thanks guys

Yes, this was my first problem with a Fiero over two decades ago.
Nice to see that this forum can still help the new owners.

The broken yellow wire is part of the Cruise Control circuit.
