Alternator for 87 SE (Page 1/1)
MERATIME FEB 20, 09:39 PM
Hello, thank you to those that responded to my previous questions. I have a question regarding the alternator requirement for a 1987 Pontiac Fiero SE four-cylinder iron Duke with the Isuzu five speed manual. I have been to a couple places here in town that have an alternator which is for the Fiero. However these alternators have two pins. My plug for the alternator has four pins and they said that it requires a special order for these specific alternators. before I go through getting the special order, I wanted to ask you all what specifically these four pens did power wise for the fiero and has anybody here ever used the two pen ones modifying for their Fieros? any advice, discussion or help would be great. Thank you.

...rockauto or oriellys.
they are trying to sell you a s10 style alternator which does not fit properly on the later duke (could also just be they dont stock it.) go look on rockauto for at least the part number to cross reference
edit: i saved you the trouble. thats the same one on my buddies 88 i4 so i know it will work.
also maybe try getting yours rebuilt by a tractor shop or any machine shop around. usually better results from those

Rebuilding your existing alternator is definitely the best option.

Here is an article detailing SI to CS alternator conversion http://novaresource.org/alternator.htm Also Ogre's Cave has a write up as well https://fierocave.shorturl.com/

I can't remember if the 87 already has the CS alternator, I think it does, so this might be non-useful to you... but if not... here's a video from my daughter that goes over all of the accessory upgrades you can make to an Iron Duke:

CS130D upgrade @1:40.

Note: you will already have the upgraded A/C compressor.

You all are great! Thank you for the feedback! Unfortunately, I do not have the Core “sighs” I wish I still had it. I will look on Rock Auto and save these additional comments as well to use too.

Yeah, sorry... I haven't posted it on Pennock's yet, I've just been so busy at work... and my daughter has so much going on with school.

Lol, the car is actually already running and driving... she's like 8 months behind in videos, and I usually help her with them. We'll eventually get out all the videos.... we have all the footage, pictures, etc., she just needs to narrate them.
