1987 Pontiac Fiero SE 2.5 L iron Duke Isuzu five speed tranny.

Hello friends, I have just visited two different auto parts stores and they are showing in stock under an 87 Pontiac Fiero, SE 2.5 L engine this option oil pressure switch

My question to you guys: Will this work for this engine? I have heard something about there are different oil Pressure switches required for different years. Please share with me your thoughts. Thank you.

Well, it not the OPS for an 88, so that's a plus.

If the parts store says that's the one, at least the prongs look right for an 87.

BTW, you could just have added this question to your post about the OPS wires, we would all be cool with that.

Thank you for the quick answer Olejoedad. I will keep related discussions as one in the future.

AFAIK the oil pressure sender/switch is a combined unit. It provides the sensor signal to the gauge but also provides a secondary voltage line to the fuel pump relay. The ones that I have seen are all three pin units.

This is true on all Fieros.

When I was looking for pressure sensors for my daughter's 85 Fiero, I ran into a few and did a little bit of research. Not all of them will actually give you an accurate reading. Some of them simply provide a boolean on whether the pressure is good or not. One circuit is for pressure reading, the other is for the warning light. I could be wrong, but I don't think that flat small one you ordered will actually give you a pressure reading, it likely will only tell you if there is pressure or not (which I think means it'll be stuck somewhere in the middle of the gauge... until one day it does not).

Hope someone chimes in, but I was steered away from those flat ones... because most GM cars in the 80s and 90s didn't have an oil pressure gauge, just a warning indicator, and used for the fuel pump relay.

this isn't the one on my 1987 2.5.it looks completely different.my replacement came from rockauto.it was the same as the one on it.the oil guage still doesn't work.i replaced it because it leaked.

that is an idiot light sender only. the 85 fieros use the sane one. you want the one off rockauto. i think the v6 ones work as well
