Retrofit TPMS? (Page 1/2)

TPMS clearly couldn't be incorporated into the main computer, but is there a reason a 12V module couldn't be created to take advantage of one of the blanks in the dash lights? It would literally just be listening for the TPMS signal from the transmitters, and light a dash light when a condition is met.

Has this ever been done, even if it's not for a Fiero?

It appears that there's a LOT of aftermarket TPMS systems - they rely on the valve stem "cover" for a pressure gauge.

Plus, the display is limited to the unit those "covers" come with.

I found this, which looks promising:

I was eyeballing that one. Doesn't use the caps. I wonder if you could route the feed from the display to trigger a relay so it could illuminate a dash light.

Stupid Question - Why?

Never have a blowout or accident caused by low tire pressure as I check my vehicle tire pressure monthly...

Not a stupid question at all.

I'll ask too.....

WHY?

I swapped my 07 Colorado cluster with an earlier one to eliminate that feature/nuisance.

No way I would put this on my Fiero.

I was thinking the most ideal situation would be to use that little cut-out in the dash cluster where it looks like an odometer or trip-ometer should be... and maybe have a digital read-out there.

Or... you could integrate that into the dash, and if you could "machine it out" better, you could make use of that little spot and mount the existing LCD behind it.

Why not? Why modify any vehicle with interesting mods?

I'd personally just like an idiot light to illuminate if the pressure gets low.

As for the inquires as to "why" - first, why not? Second, I've had occasions where there was a slow leak (from a nail) that would have been easily addressed before the tire got super low, but by the time I realized when the tire got soft, it had caused damage to the tire.

Also, why not?
