Strong transmission needed (Page 1/1)

I have a fiero that I plan of throwing a roughly 600 hp LS4 is and I am wondering if anyone would know if the f40 is strong enough or if I should try to squeeze a e153 in there and if I do have to go with the e153 if anyone knows where I could get an adapter for it

If anyone knows a different transmission I should try feel free to tell me about it I've been having issues finding something strong enough

Plan on going longitudinal and spending an entire life savings on a Porsche transmission.

1985 Muncie 4 spd case with Webster gears - as used in the Huffaker race cars. Not the most street friendly box, but build it with any ratios. Held up pretty well with 350-450 hp on 12" wide slicks.

While the F40 on paper says it only supports a certain amount of power I can tell you that it has done will behind many powerful LS4 motors in Fiero's. I know of one specifically that has been at over 500hp, and the trans has not been the issue. Axles on the other hand break. Obliviously driving habits play a role in any of this.

An LS4 with 600HP is a very aggressive goal. The standard transmission in that powertrain is the 4T65eHD but it wont hold 600HP without extensive modifications. The 4T80 might but its quite large and not a good fit. If you are looking to build a drag race car there are better platforms available where you can start with an LS3 engine and over 400 HP.

Truer words have never been spoken.

I had TEP build a 4T65eHD for me, but I don’t think a lot of those parts are available anymore.
4T80 may be your best option unless you go for a race transmission.

I am sticking with the F40 for mine.

How much torque will the F40 clutch hold?

My twin disk is rated for 800 hp.
Ecm data logs have fwtq peak at 602 lb-ft and fwhp peak at 764.
No slippage so far, but lots of tire spin in 1st and 2nd.

Put about 6,700 miles on it this summer and plan to get it on a dyno in 2025 for actual numbers.
