Hey guys I was wondering what the difference is between the 88 and 87-85 is for brake line routing. The reason I'm asking is because I recently acquired a stainless kit for an 87 and I'm wondering if it will work on my 88. ------------------ Joshua Seeger

To Me
Some members like stainless steel braided brake lines; I don't
My recommendation is to use OEM-style rubber hoses; I brought Raybestos... ------------------ Original Owner of a Silver '88 GT Under 'Production Refurbishment' @ 136k Miles

I think he was asking about the hard lines under the body? I just made my own ones out of cupro-nickel tube, so I don't really know if there is a difference?------------------ "Turbo Slug" - '87 Fiero GT. 3800 turbo. - The fastest Fiero in France! @turboslugfiero https://youtu.be/hUzOAeyWLfM

There are differences between the pre 88 layout and the 88 layout.

87 vs. 88 Brake Line Routing Differences
I'm not an expert however The Fiero Store sells THREE Different Stainless Metal Brake Line Sets:
Part # 56002 1984 fits 1984 models only Part # 56002 8587 fits 1985-87 models only Part # 56002 1988 fits 1988 models only
If you want to 'modify' the '87 kit for a '88; perhaps others might chime-in....[This message has been edited by Vintage-Nut (edited 01-07-2025).]

Stainless steel brake lines do not bend easily at all, and work harden quickly.
I would post the set you have, sell them and buy a set for the 88.
It will save you a ton of work.

All right so it looks like what people are saying is that it's a better idea to sell these ones and buy the ones for my 88. Thanks everyone!

I've replaced all with the braided stainless steel flex hoses from the line to the wheel cylinders on one Fiero and they seem to work fine. On my other Fiero stock hoses were used and they too work fine. Verdict; they work the same but the stainless braided hoses look nicer. As for the main brake lines, I would use only those made for your model year,------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. "THE COLUSSUS" 87GT - ALL OUT 3.4L Turbocharged engine, Garrett Hybrid Turbo, MSD ign., modified TH125H " ON THE LOOSE WITHOUT THE JUICE "

This explains a lot... I installed a set in my 87 Fiero many years ago, and I had to fiddle with the tubes as they come up through the grommet in the front compartment under the hood. It was ridiculous how hard it was to bend the tubes so they sat properly. I've done tons of brake and fuel lines with the hand-bending tool, and it was much easier than dealing with the stainless.
