hi, I have an 86 SE 2.8 manual 4 speed, once engine is warm, the idle revs are too low and the engine is stalling at stop lights, no problem to restart it, it does not happen with cold engine,
Any ideas? ------------------ Itzik

There is no way to tell except by going through all the tests. The IAC kicks in when the engine reaches operating temperature. Your oil is thinner at that point and on an old high mileage engine compression is lost. Those are things to check. ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. Thanks, I will clean it and replace if it won't work, I also hear ticking notices coming from that area, could it be the same issue?

Ticking might be a result of a cracked exhaust manifold. Does the ticking audibly increase as you accelerate?
I concur on checking out the IAC and cleaning the IAC passages.

The IAC has a stepper motor and makes a ticking noise when it's trying to adjust itself. If/when you clean the IAC, as noted above, it also requires making sure that the passageway it controls isn't plugged up with crud.[This message has been edited by Patrick (edited 01-06-2025).]

Many Threads on Cleaning the IAC https://www.fierosearch.com...lean&Action=DoSearch

I have to do this once or twice a year to keep my car idling and running properly.
Disconnect the battery.
Remove the big black tube that goes from the filter housing to the throttle body.
Disconnect the 4 wire connector from the IAC valve. The IAC is toward the bottom of the throttle body, on the trunk side. I has a big hex integrated in it.
Unscrew the IAC using a big socket or some pliers. I usually use Crasftsman Robogrips because it's what I have.
Remove the valve.
I usually spray the valve, especially the pointed end, very well with throttle body cleaner. Wipe every last bit of black gunk from the tip, it must be perfectly clean.
Spray throttle body cleaner into the hole for the IAC the the passage visible just in front to the throttle blade in the throttle body.
Use Q-tips w/cleaner to make sure the passage is perfectly clean.
Wait 30 minutes to make sure the cleaner dries....it does bad things if it gets into the combustion chambers.
Reassemble everything, start the car, and let it idle for 20 minutes. Then take it out {the Vehicle / Not the IAC} and make sure to give it full throttle, high rpm runs a few times.
After this, you should be good for about a year depending on driving habits. |

It seems I celebrated too early... While driving, when the engine warms up, the check engine light turns on, but while I'm driving I can't check what the fault code is, and then the engine turns off when I'm idling... The problem is that after a few minutes the engine fault light turns off and the problem disappears too... So I can't tell what the fault code is. Does anyone have any ideas? I could stop a side and test the code, but still, if anyone has experience with such an issue...
