I've always been a pre-filler.

Just not as much when the filter is slanted.

His conclusion based on several SAE papers is it really doesn't matter. In a properly maintained engine ring and cylinder wear are the limiting factors. Cold starts and high load (lugging) causes most of the ring and cylinder wear. This is pretty much what I have always thought, if I need to move a car a bit I push it if I can to avoid starting the engine.

What does this say about start stop engine longevity in many newer vehicles????
