I believe the originals are tty and if you order replacements they will be the same. personally I would go the other way and try to grt standard grade 10.9 replacements as they are stronger and reusable. sleek

I would disregard the previous advice and go on RockAuto and get the proper bolts and torque to GM spec. The 3800 is probably GM's most reliable engine for a reason.

The early 3800 (231 CI ) used reuseable head bolts and the later engines used TTY head bolts. If you build a performance engine the Builder will use grade 10.9 Head bolts or studs, hard washers and nuts depending on the build. If you are building a stock 3800 SC sure use a new set of TTY bolts. sleek

Bolts themselves are not torque-to-yield or reusable.
It is the tightening procedure, relative to the yield strength of the bolt, that determines whether the bolt is stretched within or beyond its yield point.

sorry tty bolts are very different . Caterpillar and cummins started using them long before the auto industry. They are not reusable because they are stretched when they are tightened properly. they cannot be stretched a second time as hey will break. Trust me as I have built engines for the last 55 years. They used to have courses to teach the proper degree sequence to install these bolts.
