is there any trick to removing the rearr passenger side axle from my Getrag?
this is the axle that got ripped out of the transmisson when my ball joint failed a couple months ago while driving and the whole wheel went sideways.
I since inserted the axle into the transmission, but didn't think I really pressed in with much force.
now that I have all the components (knuckle, hub, etc) out-of-the-way, I should be able to remove the axle easily…
all the info I've seen is says it comes out by prying the screwdriver in between the transmission and the axle… But I can't seem to get it out. i'm tempted to just leave it alone… But after all it's been through I would like to replace the inner axle seal[This message has been edited by gregr75 (edited 12-12-2024).]

Hi there, Normally, just a good shock with a pry bar or a very big screwdriver will pop the shaft out. It's just a question of enough leverage to compress the snap ring. It should come out quite easily.------------------ "Turbo Slug" - '87 Fiero GT. 3800 turbo. - The fastest Fiero in France! @turboslugfiero https://youtu.be/hUzOAeyWLfM

Have you tried using two screwdrivers/pry bars on opposite sides of the axle?

After the axle is removed from the outer wheel CV the old fashioned pry bar works here. Apply steady pressure in different spots all the way around and the axle will snap right out. Make sure that you have a cloth or plastic plug ready to stop the flow of transmission oil after the axle comes out. ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite.
