Key off but trunk won't pop (Page 1/1) |

I had the ignition lock replaced a year ago- and had started to notice that when I turn the key off, the engine shuts down, etc....but when I push the button to pop the trunk open, it won't work plus there is a ding....and the brake-warning light blinks.
At first, I could jiggle the lock and then the situation would revert to normal...but now it absolutely won't work....I have purchased a >>AC/Delco<< lock to install, but I also had the turn-indicator cam replaced, so I am wondering just how this situation is transpiring.....
Any info would be appreciated....

I think it will pop if the parking brake is on. I had thought, a while ago, that I could pop it key off brake off, but one day it wouldn't let me, and I never really could remember if it had ever let me or if I was remembering wrong, my dad's Fiero currently operates the exact same way, so I figured it was my memory going bad haha, but maybe it was indeed something to do with an ignition switch.

I really want to make sure I correct this situation- tried looking at the schematic diagrams but can't find where it gets the "Engine ignition on" signal...
Could be A) the key switch, B) the ignition switch module, or C) The computer.....[This message has been edited by cvxjet (edited 12-09-2024).]

In my '88 Factory Service Manual: Trunk Release - Section 8A / Page 134-0 Includes both auto and manual schematics w/ troubleshooting hints

I bet you have a manual and using my '88 manual:
The trunk release switch is HOT at all times and the ground for the relay coil comes from the parking brake switch.
*Double-check that the 'CTST/LID' Fuse is good, and you have 12V at 'B' tab for the relay when you push the trunk release switch.
*If you don't have 12V at 'B' tab for the relay when you push the trunk release switch, check 12V at 'B' tab for the trunk release switch.
*If you have 12V at 'B' tab for the trunk release switch but not at 'A' tab when you push the trunk switch; the switch is bad.
I believe when you push the trunk release switch, you have 12V at 'A' tab for the relay because the 'ding' and it also means the diode is good.
So, the probable causes are the interlock ground, the relay and/or the solenoid itself.
*With the parking engaged, check at C201 and C305 for ground *If the interlock ground is good, check 12V at 'C' tab for the relay when you push the trunk release switch *If you have 12V at 'C' tab for the relay when you push the trunk release switch, check the trunk solenoid power and/or the ground *If the interlock ground is good and 12V at 'A' tab for the relay when you push the trunk release switch, but no 12V at 'C' tab for the relay; the relay is bad

85 GT Manual transmission, I just had to check mine after reading thread. Mine has never given problem or been messed with for over 30 years and will work in or out of gear, park brake on or off. I don't know if that is the way it should be but I wouldn't want it any other way. sleek
