I'm a newcomer to this Fiero culture. I kind of inferred that maybe the 1986 GT B-pillar (with the glass) might be make the blind spots a little smaller for the driver. Has anyone who has driven both willing to comment? Am I guessing right on that? I've never driven a Fiero, but I've been thinking about dipping a toe into Fiero ownership.
TIA,

I have not driven both, but that was indeed one of the reasons of the change, and a legitimate improvement, but I don't mind the blind spots very much, the Fiero makes up for them with absolutely excellent visibility everywhere else, and the fastback (with the windows) is technically aerodynamically worse than the notchback (without the windows).

I've only owned notchbacks (just preferred the body style), but I have driven a few GTs. I never found the B-pillars in the notchback to be a blind spot. Visibility in that car is really quite good...

Safety Tip - All vehicles have blind spots!
I have attached 'Fisheye' {small convex} mirrors on ALL of my side mirrors {including Fiero} which eliminate the rear blind spots.------------------ Original Owner of a Silver '88 GT Under 'Production Refurbishment' @ 136k Miles

I'm mostly in the second image, but when sitting NORMAL in my seat, I like to be able to see the very edge of my car in the mirror, because I need that to be able to judge distance between the car I'm looking at in the mirror, and where it is relative to my car.
In the upper picture, it's half on the car, half on the road (which is silly), but I have it more like... 1/8th on the car, and 7/8ths on the road. I just need perspective. But for me, I always turn and look anyway whenever I'm about to change lanes. But I'm constantly looking at all my mirrors (rear, and sides) repeatedly while I'm driving (even if I'm not turning), just so I know what's going on around me.
It's saved my ass a couple of times.
I was stopped at the bottom of a rainy hill at a traffic light, and I see this car (in my rear view) coming up over the crest, and I'm like... yeah... no way that guy is going to be able to stop. So I pull out carefully into the intersection in front of a car next to me... who looked shocked and perturbed.
A few seconds later... the guy has his brakes locked... and he slides through the entire intersection without being able to stop. And I thought to myself... hell yeah, I just saved my ass...
I was in my (brand new) at the time, 2006 Pontiac Solstice... man I would have been so pissed.

I have owned and currently own a notchback 86 and a fastback 87. I find that the notchback B pillar has less visibility restrictions than the fastback B pillar and flying buttress. The area of the fastback quarter window and flying butress's solid structure tends to block vision while the notchback has nothing there to impede vision. But I love driving both. Just gotta look a couple of times before changing lanes or making any maneuver in traffic.

How many times do you look at the car in front of you and you can see their entire face in their side mirror? This means that they are probably seeing 80% or more of their car in the mirror which is useless. Anyone you see with mirrors adjusted like that should be avoided as they are not properly trained to drive their vehicle and could endanger others with their ignorance. Their license should also be permanently taken away as they have proven not to be able to critically think about how to handle a vehicle.

Hahaha! I have seen that, it never occurred to me the angle it must be at for me to see them!

I try to make sure my side mirrors aren't set to show me the sides of my car. Keep those blind spots as small as possible.
