difference: manual vs auto brake pedal (Page 1/1)

I am doing a transmission swap, I have an auto and I'm upgrading to an F23. I am wondering what I should do about the brake assembly. I was hoping to reuse my old pedal and add on the fiero store clutch pedal, but I don't see any resources on that.

Whats the actual physical difference between the two, other than size of the brake pedal? is the clutch pedal unable to attach to the auto brake assembly? If I have to get a manual brake assembly, would fiero farm be a good option?

Probably zero difference other than the pedal size as the rest of the braking system is the same manual / auto. You may need to look for a clearance issue between the brake and clutch pedals.

You will need to add the clutch pedal bracket and the longer through bolt for the pedals.

Most likely you will need to change the brake pedal as it is too big and will interfere with the clutch - you will also need the whole assembly as well that holds the clutch peddle (which should come with the brake).

Hi, I did this swap in my Fiero many years ago (never actually put the transmission itself in, but I did literally everything else).

The pedal assembly comes apart, and you'll need to swap out the brake pedal with one from a manual transmission car... the clutch pedal isn't the only thing that needs to go in... you need a bracket and a few other things as well.

I tried to document everything that you'll need on my web page that I wrote in notepad back in the 90s (hahah)... so don't judge:

I have a ton of pictures on there, but basically, while you have it all out, you might as well rebuild it with new bushings and everything too. I had the luxury of having a parts car that was my same year and everything as the car I was upgrading. It had a blown motor and missing the bumpers... had no options, and I got it (total cost plus delivery) for $250 bucks. Those were the days.

Today, that parts car would be like 4 grand at least.

Anyway, easiest to just get the entire assembly if you are missing those things.

I should know the process as one was done here but about 10 years back but from memory-. You will definitely new the brake pedal that matches your transmission choice and the longer side bracket that holds the brake and clutch pedal. You will also need the longer bolt/shaft that holds both pedals to the side bracket, the return spring and a few other things. Then you must set up the master and slave cylinders, have the trans mounting bracket and the connecting line. Then you will need the manual shift mechanism, shift cables, shifter knob, manual console surround and back up light switch.. Its quite a bit of work. Its a lot easier going the other way as the one we did was manual to auto.
