I have an 84 SE and the idle surges between 500 and 1500 rpm. it's not the iac as I have replaced it and it didn't change the symptom. if I give the engine a quick little tap on the gas it evens out the idle to around 800. the throttle plate has been adjusted by the previous owner. I adjusted it to the point where the engine seems to idle best. what is the correct way to adjust it? I think this is my issue.
After you adjust the throttle stop to original (should never be changed), check your EGR if it's working and if it's the correct part number - been there, done that.
EDIT: Oh and check for vacuum leaks with a cigar or something.
