Good Morning FFF (Fellow Fiero Fans),
Last evening, I bit the bullet and finally replaced all 4 motor/trans mounts on my 84 duke. I thought I was doing a stroke of business, as I had found the box of mounts, I ordered three months ago and finally took the time to get underneath and refresh the bits reigning in all 92 wild ponies. My mounts were original with 127k clicks on the mile meter and very oil soaked or dry rotted. Though they appeared to hold everything together fine, I had no thumps or noises when shifting gears, but I had experienced noise when making sharp right turns under large amounts of throttle. (Note: I could make the same turn or sharper with the clutch engaged, and no noise would occur. The noise happened only when under higher throttle).
This morning as I started my commute, I noticed something was not quite the same. When I started the vehicle, the engine noise vibration harshness (NVH) was higher than normal. At idle, it was barely detectable, but at 3k rpm, the NVH is extreme and almost deafening. At 2k, I feel a lot more vibration than I ever felt. This car has always been very smooth, despite the duke's personality. What may I have done incorrectly to cause this issue? The mounts are Westar mounts, and I believe the engine mount is a solid mount (WESTAR EM2472), but I could be wrong. I could not find any torque specs, so I tightened them arm strong tight. Is this too tight?
Any help that you all might provide would be fantastic. I want to enjoy my ride again!
Thanks

I don't know if what you're experiencing is something wrong with the mounts but I'll just say that every time I replaced motor and trans mounts I noticed an increase in vibrations for awhile, worse than the old mounts that were bad, but eventually goes away. I believe it takes time for the rubber to soften up.

Unfortunately, this is more than just a minor vibration. It is loud and very harsh. I am not able to cruise on the highway with this setup. I hate to say it, but I might have to put the old oil-soaked unit back in.

This may give you a better understanding of the issue.
