Running a line from the engine bay to inside the cabin? (Page 1/1)

So has anyone had to run a new pair of wires from the engine bay area to the inside of the cabin? If so, where did you feed it through?

I am adding some effect lighting to the deck lid grates and I would like to be able to run them to a switch inside the cabin but I can't find any easy access to run the wires? Ideas??? Suggestions???? Thanks in advance.

Booster vac line, Throttle and shifter(s) cables go under ECM and grommets there thru "Firewall." use them for these.

Keep extra lights off while driving.
Can get stopped and tickets w/ illegal lights.

Like mentioned above, the shifter and throttle cable grommets should have plenty of room to run some wires through.

I got it!!!! I took part of my center console off and found where my accelerator cable goes through the firewall. I pushed the wires through and finished the wiring in my engine area. I don't have the power hooked up to it yet, but At least I am done in the engine bay. Thank guys!

I will post some pictures when I get them powered up.

Thanks again!

Here's a few pics of the deck lights.....

Not too bad for a do-it-myself job. :-) And yes, I checked on Ohio law and I can have these lights since they do not flash and are not blindingly bright.

And those are lights below the grilles?

Look like led strips between slot bottom and top on second version vents.

Note: Even if sold as "water proof," most LED won't last long direct expose to Weather and Sunlight.
Why?
UV and Ozone "eats" most plastics.
Water will find every crack and attack "wiring" and SMD parts.
"White" LED has phosphor to make White and UV from sun can quickly "wear out" this layer.

That's ignoring LED in cars often have other problems making short life...

Yes. I bought individual red LED lights and fed them in between the grates of the grill. I made my own wiring harness with plugs so I can unplug it and still remove the grills when I need to access the area underneath.

I may add a few more red lights to the chain to finish lighting the rest of the grill fins, not sure yet.

I added a plug inside so I can power them up using the cigarette lighter when I want them on. That way no actual original wiring was altered.

I did run a test on the particular lights I bought. They ran rain or shine with varying degrees of heat exposure? I don't drive the car in the winter at all (Ohio winters are brutal) and I drive it recreationaly in the summer months. If they last a year or two, I'm good with that....I just thought it was a neat concept to try out on the car, plus I enjoy making my own stuff verses buying some "kit".
