Hello all. I fired up my 3800 88 GT this morning for a grocery run with my wife and the car was making a horrible rattling sound that seems to me to be coming from the transmission. It rattles and and flatters while idling in neutral and almost, but not quite, goes away when I step on the clutch. It goes away completely if I bring the rpms above 1500 but returns as soon as the rpms drop below 1500 again. I guess the trans has to come out regardless but I'm wondering if Anyone else has ever had something like this? I should mention that I was wailin on it pretty good yesterday and I also noted that it seemed to be shifting smoother than it normally has.

do a search for Getrag Rattle. Some have had the noise for years with no difficulties. My Getrag rattles when it is hot, but is quiet the next time I start the car. [This message has been edited by Gall757 (edited 06-07-2020).]

As Gall said, the "Getrag Rattle" is quite common. If it isn't making any odd whining noises, shifts okay, and isn't losing any fluid, I wouldn't worry about it.------------------ Raydar 88 Formula IMSA Fastback. 4.9, NVG T550

That's a very common experience for a lot of us. Read This post and the next couple after it.
