my 1988 Mara has a slight leak at the top of the steering rack. I didn't think much of it until it sat for a month and when I went to drive it, it was almost out of PS fluid.
Is this a common problem? Can the rack be rebuilt?
Thanks in advance.

Fieros don't have power steering, unless someone added it or you have one of the prototype electrohydraulic power steering racks.

Where is your power steering reservoir? Is it near the driver's side headlight? In that case you have one of a handful of 88 Fieros that got out before the car was cancelled.

To me, it INDEED looks like you have a factory 88 Fiero power steering system.
To get the rack rebuilt, you'll need to find a competent rebuilder as there is no "88 rack rebuild kit". But he should be able to source any seals needed after measuring them.
I would think the parts may be the same as a Chevette PS rack because the Fiero steering racks were basically a wider version of those on the Chevette.
This is a Chevette PS rack in a Lambo kit.

NO 88 Fiero power steering parts are available

None of those pics are from the OP so we still have no idea what he has.

It was a good answer, I didn't want to jump to any conclusions until we saw what he had, I've seen half a dozen different racks used over the years. Or maybe it's just a brake fluid leak.

There was a power steering unit that was put on the re-bodied Zimmer Quicksilver that had the pump located on the 2.8L engine and long lines running to the front. West Coast Fiero might have also offered an installation kit for the F Body rack. ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. They used a Merkur xr4ti power steering rack for those cars. http://www.fiero.nl/forum/A...031110-2-030221.html
