Interior Headliner Color (Page 1/1)

Hello All -

I'm in the process of determining which color of headliner material to go with for my 86 2.8 GT auto. Searching around at fabric stores online (including TheFieroStore), I've seen everything from saddle to buckskin to doeskin to light tan to dark tan to beechwood.

The Fierostore said "All 84s & 85s were equipped with light grey or light saddle". They go on to say "1986 Fieros could have either light or dark but all 86-88 GTs were equipped with dark grey or dark saddle". Judging from the color of my current headliner, it sure does not look like a dark saddle to me (maybe the leather wraparound shifter and console are dark saddle, but certainly not the headliner). I don't believe the material faded much either (plus the sunroof is tinted).

As you can see this is all very confusing. I just want to get as close to an original match as I possibly can for this project. Does anyone have any type of clue as to which of these colors it is? I was looking for a color chart for this model year but came up empty with that too.

Opinions are much appreciated - thank you in advance.

The fault lies in the names. Not only did General Motors try to name individual colors, but they named whole interiors and often used the same name twice for 2 different things. So you ended up with a 'Dark Saddle' interior that had more than 2 colors in it. So you can have a 'Dark Saddle' interior with a light tan headliner. Find a corner that was covered up by a panel so it did not fade, and match the color at your fabric store.

Gall - thank you... I will probably take that route. I might even ask some of the fabric stores if they can offer a free swatch to compare a few of them.

Compounding the issue: all these years later, you're left picking between maybe two different shades of tan at the fabric store.

At least that's how it was when I bought gray headliner fabric. I liked the color I bought, but nothing else they had was even close.

I received a couple samples from the Fiero Store - looks like light saddle is the closest to mine.
Does anyone have any experience with the glue provided with the headliner material? I've heard good things about the 3M Super Trim Adhesive 8090 and the 3M 38808, but the FS said they don't use 3M with the kits and didn't mention what brand they actually include.
