Was going to replace fuel injectors, just bought this car, but it seems someone has tapped a hole and put a bolt in there? Any reason for this?

It's been a lot of years since I've seen a 2.8 in person, but I'm certain that is the cold start injector tube. Yours has been removed and plugged with the bolt.

Is there a reason that people do that? or just a jank solution to a problem.

I believe the 3.4 doesn't require a cold start injector... so when one is swapped into a Fiero, that injector can be deleted.
Sometimes for other reasons (leaky injector?), people simply wish to get rid of the cold start injector. If nothing else, it cleans up the intake area somewhat.

If the car has been converted to DIS, and I see yours hasn't, the cold start injector isn't needed. The ECM takes care of that function. The fuel rail for the 3.4 is almost identical to the Fiero fuel rail and doesn't have the cold start injector port.
As said above, it could have been due to a bad injector or just for cosmetics. The only ill effect of removal is it might take a little longer to start the engine. That injector acts as a choke of sorts, putting in a little extra shot of fuel when starting a cold engine.[This message has been edited by fierofool (edited 05-24-2020).]

I believe that in Washington state he will need the cold start injector. The picture shows a distributor so it doesn't appear that he has DIS. ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. Depends on ECM either or not Cold Start Injector is needed.
"newer" ECM/PCM are program to boost main injection for cold start. "standard" "old" V6 ECM for Fiero and others are not program to do the same.
even w/ the "old" programing many remove the CSI because they leak etc. But now can have trouble starting when weather gets cool or cold and may need to have starter fluid.
CSI is on starter circuit to get power only trying to start. Also Thermal and turn on engine below 95°F (35°C) for 8sec max.
