Dash Flicker - Tell me what i did wrong (Page 1/1)

I took out the instrument cluster to clean it up and install LED bulbs. Although I have done this work several times before I really struggled getting everything back together. In fact, it is still not 100% together.

Once I finally got the lower valance panel on I thought I would test it. I turned the key to the ON position and idiot lights looked good. I turned the key to START and the car started, but the idiot lights sort of flickered. Almost like a loose ground or short The car started and everything works fine. I just don't want to reassemble this if something is wrong. If need be, I could probably get a video of it.

Has anyone else experience this?

Often the dash dimmer won't play well w/ LED. Move dimmer knob full on. Or bypass the transistor.
See my Cave, Dash Dimmer

Should not install LED to replace warning lights.
More so w/ bat/alt light that needs proper bulb resistance to make the alt to work.

Sockets and dash "board" can be iffy not getting good connection and LED just make that more obvious.

Ogre,

I know what you are talking about. This flicker is unrelated to the dimmer. In fact, at one point I test installed the cluster only to my dash (no surround). All the idiot lights looked good. Car started fine. No flicker. I think I am going to have to disassemble everything again and start from square one.
