1984 Fiero Starts then Dies after 15 seconds (Page 1/1)

Hi Guys,

Another Mystery Problem:

-Car starts, runs well for about 15 seconds, then dies. Attempting to restart, turn key and nothing as if battery is disconnected. Battery is good and connections are tight. Battery cables new and tight to ground and starter. I also have redundant ground straps.

-Starter and all sensors connected and good. I don't believe that fusible links are bad because car does start.

-New fuel pump tests good.

-Headlights still work as do interior lights. Gauges are fine until engine dies.

-Alternator tests good and is fairly good new.

-Newer distributor and module. Timing is set correctly.

-Plugs and wires all good. Fairly new.

-All fuses test good.

Problem definitely seems electrical. Could it be the distributor module is bad despite being replaced recently?

Thanks in advance...

Put up the headlights then try to start. Do the lights dim??? If not then you can be pretty sure the starter solinoid is not engaging. Check to see if you have voltage there when attempting to restart.

If the car starts fine and then loses power after 15 seconds, a likely reason would be heat at the starter fusable links. If that is true, a large portion of the electrical system should not be working, along with the starter.

Looks like I'll need to check the wiring at the starter. That has been problematic before. Thanks Gents...
