Are the seat bases different year to year? (Page 1/2)
sjmaye MAY 08, 05:18 AM
Many years ago I purchase full seats with Mr. Mike's leather covers. I just thought it more simple than recovering my original seats. One thing that always bothered me is that my e-brake handle really rubs the side of the seat base when I try to use it. So badly It is virtually impossible to use. This makes me think the seats I bought are a bit wider than my original 1988 seats. Even the upper part of the seat rubs against the B-pillar trim.

Are the OEM 1988 seats narrower than previous years?

For what it is worth, I have had 86, 87, and 88 Fieros and have not had the issue described here.

Yes, I have both a 87 and 88 Fiero. My 1987 does not have the problem.

Agree with the guys that it sounds odd.
I think they aren't Fiero seats. Any pictures?

Pretty sure they are Fiero seats. I bought them from Paulv right here on Pennocks. I will try to get a pic.

Both of my 1985 Fieros have been like this.

I thought it was just a Fiero quirk.

Edit to add photo:

I just pulled hard on the lever to bend it a bit away from the seat.

The lever seems to be not very strong and easily bent. It is possible that this lack of strength is what allowed the lever to get bent crooked in the first place. It may be worth taking it off the car to inspect for broken welds and stuff like that.

I had thought about bending it a tad. You encourage me!

Something wrong w/ OP car...

Seat bottom are same for all years. (Maybe not for 84) Plus same bottom fits both side w/ small cutting of "Fabric" to clear holes for pivot parts.

MM and some other covers add "fabric" that might cause clearance problems.
D-side bottom foam can/will break down over time as Driver gets in/out. Often depends how the driver gets in/out plus driver weight. Car seats, and even the whole car, like many other seats are design w/ a "weight limit" so heavy drivers have problems w/ foam break down, pivot/hinge failures, etc.

Plus Above P-levers are bend. Remove seat and trim to find what is bend.

Looks like brake handle is bent.
They aren't very strong in side-to-side movement.
Just went out a took a pic of the handle in my Indy.
