No crank if steering wheel is in the up position (Page 1/1)
unplugged1981 MAY 07, 03:11 PM
Hello Forum!, a couple of months ago I had a no crank no start issue.
So I replace the starter,
-cleaned all ground connections,
-fully charged the battery (my battery is dated from 2016)
-Air filter is ok
-tested spark from the spark plugs, its ok.
-checked the Fuel pump, its ok
-New ignition coil
-New Distributor
My car now cranks (but wont start) but only if I tilt the steering wheel down, if I tilt the steering wheel up it wont crank or start. Is this something related with the ignition switch. What must I do?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Adv.

I think the actual switch is down low on the steering column. and operated with a cable from the key. It may be out of adjustment. If so, the switch may have a slotted mount to slide it up, or down to adjust...

Ill go check and see if it needs adjustment. Something I forgot to mention. This whole thing started while I was driving back home and all of a sudden the car stalled and that was it, It wouldn't start again.
Can the car stall while driving due to a broken faulty ignition switch?

thanks

...Of course...Check slide adjustment first...

Likely Link parts between lock and switch are bad.
And/or tilt mech mounting bolts are loose.
Adjusting switch might hind this for awhile.

This affected me, where my steering wheel was loose enough to actually turn the car off while driving. unplugged1981, if your column is loose, you should definitely fix that first.

Ogre, fx , seq, thanks for the reply and info . My steering column is well fixed I don’t have any kind of movement but one thing to mention is that a few years ago I changed the whole steering column. Anyhow I’ll Order a new ignition switch but I guess I’ll have to wait a bit because right now all shipments are slow due to the pandemic.
