Remove the speedometer sending unit (VSS).
Fill it though the port. If you look, there is a FULL line on the VSS unit.

The VSS is above the passenger side axle bearing on the top of the transmission housing. It is held in by a flat retainer that is secured with a 10mm headed bolt. Use care, and a twisting motion when removing the VSS. Be careful to lift it straight up out of the housing, as there is a gear on the lower end of the VSS that you don't want to drop in the transmission.[This message has been edited by olejoedad (edited 04-17-2020).]

typo- meant to say Gear, not year. Be careful with it, brittle and easy to lose

why did they not put an easier fill port like all the others, there is even a spot where it should go but there is either a riveted plate or just a casting imprint where it should be, what the hell kind of sense does that make

General Motors was pretty good at building cars as cheaply as possible, while charging as much as they could. They did not anticipate the cars would still be around 35 years later, cared for by a bunch of crazies, using a website to keep their cars working. Transmission fluid lasted for the life of the transmission as far as they were concerned.
edit: I bet the engineer who proposed to do away with the fill hole got a bonus check that year... [This message has been edited by Gall757 (edited 04-17-2020).]
