i have read the ogres write up on taking the axle out as well as a few others i found on the internet, i have the suspension, brakes, hub, everything off or out of the way and have tried to pop it off with everything up to and including a crow bar, but it will not come out, is there some trick or step i'm unaware of to make this pop out?

I use a prybar to get the axle out. It may not be the recommended way, but it works every time. All you need to do is to pop the snap ring out of the groove in the trans and the axles comes loose. Its doesn't take that much pressure to get it loose. ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. The trick is to get the pry bar in the right place to get the leverage needed. I can get mine out with a small narrow pry bar.

is there some part im not taking out or something, the whole suspension is out and the brakes and the knuckle and hub, is there a keeper ring outside by the tranny or something, ive been at this thing with a crow bar almost to the point of knocking it off the jack stands and its not budging at all, just in case i have it in neutral but all these posts say it takes very little to get it out so i must be doing something wrong

Has the car been sitting a long time and the fluid has drained out of the transmision? It could be rusted solid in that case. The only thing keeping the axle in is a small split ring that rides in a groove in the end of the axle. If the axle has never been removed, it does take some reefing to get it to budge. There is nothing else holding it in. ------------------ 86 GT built 2.2 ecotec turbo rear SLA suspension QA1 coilovers on tube arms

If you are just trying to get the axle and have no use for the transmission, use a BFH and a big cold chisel. ------------------ 86 GT built 2.2 ecotec turbo rear SLA suspension QA1 coilovers on tube arms

Axles often want a quick pop from whatever tool used to get out. I use small welded link chain as shown in cave w/ a sledgehammer in other end. Small clean swing that ends abruptly as chain goes tight is enough to get most on first try. Hammer is best if has 3 - 5 feet of chain so can work easy outside of wheel well. I like to have loop end link on top of axle so can set the loops before pulling.
Is based in a big slide hammer w/ axle popping tip. Wires and "Dog chain" made of wire and other weak chains can stretch or break before will pop the axle.
1 pry bar can break the trans case before you release the axle. I used 2 bars 180° from each other but still often is a pain to release. That before using chain method.
Any method is very likely to damage the axle seal as axle spines hit them.------------------ Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should. (Jurassic Park)
