Hope everyone is well!
I pulled my tranny for the second time since I've owned the car to replace the clutch, and while it was out, what the heck, l decided to have someone put new synchros in it. Well it took this guy 2 months trying to find the parts and couldn't. So he puts it back together, didn't charge me, and I get the tranny back in (took it out using the alternate method of just dropping the passenger side cradle).
Now I can't get the right shaft back in. Can't get behind it enough to hit it with a screwdriver and hammer on the lip. I figure it's because the shaft is not level and coming in sightly cocked. But my tranny is also stuck in reverse and it will not shift out of it.
So the question is, do both axles need to be in the tranny for it to shift?
I'm holding off on having to take the right strut off to get enough pressure behind it if that's not the case and have to return it again.

To answer your question, NO, the axles do not need to be in the transmission to get it to shift.
