Gen 2 headlights were introduced with the 87 model year.

They feature a smaller knob than the Gen 1 and have no relay on the headlight mechanism support bracket.

Examples?

The only significant mid-year change I'm aware of for the 86's is the 4-spd Muncie being replaced by the 5-spd Getrag on the V6 powered models.

mine is 5 speed but 4 cyl is that normal?
TheDuke APR 12, 06:30 PM
the only other fiero ive ever had was an 84

Yes, that is normal. The 86 and 87 SE's were unique in themselves. They had the Indy and 85GT body style with aero trim but were also available with the 4 cylinder engine and dual exhausts.

The 86 model year was the only year to enjoy all 4 transmissions utilized in the Fiero. Munce, Isuzu, Getrag and Th125. Muncies and Getrags were specific to the V6 and Isuzus were specific to the 4-cylinder. Automatics were used across all platforms.

so that means that i have an Isuzu transmission, interesting
any other querks to the 86?
i found out the ecu in my 84 isnt compatible with my 86

Just so it's clear, the 5-spd Isuzu is not a "querk" to the '86. It was used with all Fiero 4-bangers from '85-'88.

The generation one headlights had a larger knob, and there were two holes in the top of it. The Gen 2 knobs were smaller, and no holes on top

Astronomy says we will find a coded signal from outer space. Then we'll KNOW that life exists there, for coded signals aren't by chance.

Biology says there are coded genetic signals in every cell, but we KNOW that no intelligence created life.

Gen one motor, square knob

Gen two motor, tapered knob
