..,I 'm gonna paint the lower silver trim with satin black to match the spoiler on my 86 GT. Because it's plastic, does anyone have any suggestions on what paint to use. I'm thinking that rubberized 'Plasti dip' would be good, cause it would flex if the plastic flexes. Or Rustolium satin black that is actually an exact match to the spoiler that was professionally painted with hardener...Can't afford for them to do the lowers. I'll use rattle cans, that I'm pretty good with, as I don't have access to a spray gun set-up anymore...

Use SEM (brand name) trim black. It's the best quality I've found & comes in larger cans than the cheaper shtuff. Won't "chalk out" like the cheaper paints do. You can find it at your local auto body supply & maybe in some parts stores. HTH, ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver"

Thanks, I've used SEM to paint one of my motorcycles so I know where to get it. I had the proper spray equipment at the time, and it came out real good..,Actually satin black also...But I'll ask for trim paint...Hope they have it in rattle cans, but I think they can load one up for me, if they don't have pre-cannd......

I use just black basecoat and leave it. Ive not had any trouble with it not being cleared. In fact I even painted the American Torque Thrust wheels on my SuperBee basecoat black with no clear. They were fine after several years of driving year round. Its a myth that you 'have' to put clear on a basecoat. If you dont want to buy that, you can always coat the basecoat black with flat or semi gloss clear for same effect. Ive done a lot of Mopar and Mustang 'flat black' hoods with basecoat...some bare, some with flat clear. Spray cans are ok with narrow panels like your rockers, but work like crap for areas like a hood (streaks). For years ive used Krylon BBQ black for trim parts with few problems. Thanks Roger I've just ordered 2 cans of the SEM trim paint for plastic for 30 bucks free delivery from Amazon. I will keep your suggestions for future reference. And agree, It's near impossible to get a uniform cover on whole panels with spray cans...The car is red (ain't they all), the black lower trim with the black spoiler will be nice accents... Dont get me wrong, SEM is good product, used to be called MarHyde decades ago. Its just twice as expensive as Krylon or Rustoleum unless you find a deal.

olejoedad, I dont get online much anymore after retiring. Ive got a lot of fires burning what with RVing, flying and road racing a Cadillac CTSV. I mostly dont need the aggravation here. With the current 'stay home' virus thing, ive got more time to get online till racing gets going again.
