Transmission shifter issue (Page 1/1)

Hi, I have a 1985 gt with a 5 speed and a 2.8 v6. So I just recently got a new clutch and slave and master cylinder on my car and it was running and driving great for about a week or two. Today, I get in my car and I only have 1st and 2nd gear. My cable is like frozen and it won't go left and right to go into 3,4,5, and R. I let the car warm up and undid the linkage manually but now my shfter just won't move left and right unless I change the gear manually from the linkage in the engine bay. I just don't know what's wrong and how to fix it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum!

Disconnect the 'select' cable at the shifter and see if the cable moves freely all by itself. If it does, check for binding or debris in the shifter mechanism. Coins have jammed up shifters before.

edit: '85 Fieros were sold with 4 speed transmissions. Do you know if the shfter is replaced as well?
